Previous Work

All this previous work has been supported through the funding of Interface and in-kind support from IOL.

The first Phase aimed to test the process of a sector wide incident-reporting system. Its objectives were to;

  • Identify the key information required
  • Assess its useability for providers
  • Ensure the data collected retained anonymity
  • Analyse the data to identify any gaps in the final data results

The project achieved this by recruiting a small group of organisational participants who contributed historical incident reports from a three-month period. This data alongside their total number of participant activity days and feedback/project evaluation was analysed to meet the four research objectives.

The second Phase worked alongside a student who was completing their MSc in Applied Data Analytics. It aimed to build upon the previous phase by developing a survey to report on factors associated with incidents and participation in the outdoor adventure activities sector.

Its aims were to identify what data should be collected during the survey, what types of analysis this will allow, and how this will contribute towards the aims of the wider Collective Knowledge Project.

It specifically looked at survey and sampling methods, data collection and storage tools, possible metrics to report, issues relating to anonymity and aggregation, as well as the legal and ethical context.

It has resulted in both an Invitation for Feedback and further information available here
