Lagganlia is excited to be offering a rare Permanent part-time position. This is the first time in three years that this opportunity has opened up. We are looking forward to adding a new instructor to our existing team of nine.

Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Learning is part of the City of Edinburgh's Outdoor Learning Team

The team comprises two residential centres, a city-based resource centre, a technical advice service, and an inner-city facility known as the Risk Factory. Edinburgh is the UK-wide leader in Outdoor Learning and is looking to invest in its future.

Based near Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park, Lagganlia reopened post-COVID as a fully refurbished, high-quality residential outdoor learning centre. Our primary role is to provide outdoor learning residential for the young people of Edinburgh. We are looking to add to our existing team of highly qualified outdoor educators who can provide a wide range of adventurous experiences. Lagganlia has amazing access to a range of wilderness environments that allow us to ski/snowboard, sail, canoe, mountaineer, raft, climb, kayak, canyon and mountain bike. We also have on-site facilities that can provide archery, orienteering, skiing and high ropes activities. A full range of NGB awards is therefore essential.

Lagganlia sets a high ambition for its outdoor education courses. Each one is tailored to the visiting school, and the instructor is given full ownership to design their own programme. Our integration in the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence is acclaimed and all staff must have a thorough understanding and experience of how to deliver this and not just tick a box. Our deliverable outcomes are written every week by the visiting school and staff must be able to adapt their programme to achieve these. We are currently focused on contributing to every Edinburgh school's Learning for Sustainability targets.

Permanent staff have a wide role and breadth to their delivery roles. Mentoring of the trainee scheme, activity maintenance and development, NGB development, school visits and progressing their outdoor learning pedagogy.

Please see the attached Job Description for the exact requirements of this position.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experiences, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
