Willowgate Adventure Centre is seeking enthusiastic, professional and qualified Freelance Outdoor Activity Instructors to join our sessional team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a stunning outdoor environment, delivering high-quality adventure activities to a wide range of groups.
Freelancers will be working for Tay & Earn Trust, trading as Willowgate Adventure Centre.
Contract Commitment - May & June 2026 and ad hoc dates
Successful applicants will be contracted to work a set number of days during May and June 2026, along with ad hoc availability over the season. This is to ensure consistent staffing levels during our busiest operational period.
Exact dates and required commitment will be confirmed during the onboarding process.
Role Overview
As a Freelance Instructor, you will deliver safe, engaging, and memorable outdoor activity sessions. You will work under the remit of your qualifications and support the Willowgate team in providing excellent customer experiences.
Activities May Include
Depending on qualifications, work may include:
- Paddlesports (canoe, kayak, SUP)
- Target Sports (Archery, Axe Throwing, Air Rifles, Laser Clays)
- River & Loch Tours
- Offsite activity delivery
- General outdoor education sessions

Travel
- No travel expenses are provided for travel to/from the centre.
- If required to travel from the centre to an external location using your own vehicle, mileage will be paid at 45p per mile.
Essential Requirements
All applicants must provide:
- Copy of a Willowgate PVG
- Copy of valid ID
- Copies of relevant qualifications (e.g. paddlesports, Archery GB, walking, etc.)
- Minimum First Aid qualification
- Completed Medical & Emergency Contact Form
- Completion of Willowgate training & site familiarisation
- Willingness to read and sign Willowgate SOPs and Risk Assessments before delivering sessions
Induction
All freelance staff must complete an induction on their first day, covering:
- Health & Safety
- Emergency Procedures
- Centre Operations
Induction length will depend on experience and qualifications.
Dress Code / Professional Standards
Freelancers must wear appropriate outdoor clothing.
If a Willowgate uniform is issued, it must be worn during sessions and returned before leaving the centre.
Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. Any tattoos or piercings that could be perceived as offensive should be covered.
PPE
Freelancers may use their own PPE once checked and approved by the Centre Manager or Assistant Manager.
Willowgate can supply PPE if required. Any damage to personal PPE will not be covered by Willowgate.
Invoices & Payment
- Invoices must be addressed to Tay & Earn Trust
- Payment terms: 30 days
- Payments are made by BACS
Insurance
All Freelance Instructors are covered under Willowgate Adventure Centre Insurance while working, provided all SOPs and Risk Assessments are followed.
