Farming Learning and Engagement Officer at West Cumbria Rivers Trust

Salary: Grade 3D starts at £29,896 per annum plus 9% pension (optional, NEST scheme also available)

Contract length: 3 Years (subject to funding)

Hours of work: 0.4 FTE (14 hours (2 days) per week with possible extension from other projects and with further funding).

West Cumbria Rivers Trust is a registered environmental charity dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the wildlife and habitats of rivers, lakes and the surrounding countryside in West Cumbria. Our patch covers several principal river catchments which include seven iconic lakes, spanning a substantial part of the Lake District National Park and West Cumbria. We have an impressive track record of successful delivery of projects.

WCRT believe that reconnecting people to the natural world is essential to safeguarding its future and it also comes with a host of physical and mental health benefits for people. This exciting role will be delivering farming and environmental education and community activities across West Cumbria, with the aim of engaging people in the farming and watery world around them to ensure its preservation for future generations.

The post will deliver our new farming programme, based on the curriculum along with outreach events and activities to communities in WCRT’s catchments, promoting the work of WCRT and inspiring young people and communities along the way. The sessions are linked to WCRT’s Education Strategy with a focus on the deprived communities of the west coast.

The successful candidate will have at least 2 years experience in delivering environmental education sessions and events within schools or other relevant settings. You will be a self-starter who can demonstrate effective and sympathetic communication with a broad section of society, particularly working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

You will be based at the Trust’s office in Keswick and will involve travel between schools and groups around West Cumbria. Some weekend and evening working will be required, for which time off in lieu will be awarded. West Cumbria Rivers Trust operates as a team and as such it may be necessary, from time to time, for you to undertake suitable and relevant duties, not specified in the Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity with no two days likely to be the same. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, passionate and helpful team, reporting to the Trust’s CEO and supported by the wider staff team.
