Job Description
To assist in the day-to-day operation of Outfit Moray and contribute to the overall development of outdoor learning and adventure programmes. This varied and interesting role requires you to have a flexible approach to work and the ability to use your initiative and plan ahead in dealing with a wide range of daily tasks. To work in collaboration with the Outfit Moray team and the Lead Instructor in the delivery of outdoor activity sessions. To instruct, guide, lead and support participants engaged in outdoor learning programmes whilst managing safety in line with current operational procedures, risk assessments and codes of practice. You will be Instructing and leading groups in a range of outdoor learning and adventure activities as well as assisting in the administration, organisation and development of Outfit Moray. You will be required to be a positive role model and help develop and maintain a positive and supportive culture.

Job requirements

Essential:

At least 3 NGB Awards from the list below:

  • Mountain Leader (Summer)
  • Hill & Moorland Award
  • Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI)
  • Paddle Sports Instructor Level 1 Coach or Coach Award Level 2 Sheltered Water – Canoe/Kayak/ Stand Up Paddle Board Coach
  • Paddle Sports Leader/ Paddle Sport Touring Leader
  • Trail Cycle Leader / MTB Leader Level 2
  • White Water Leader – Kayak or Canoe
  • IRF/ BCU Raft Guide – Grade 2

Full UK driving licence with B1(Manual)

Desirable

  • Full UK driving licence with PCV+E or D1E endorsement
  • Coach Award Level 2:
    – Canoe coach with moderate water endorsement
    – Canoe/ Kayak Moderate Water Coach
    – Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, Open Water or White Water
  • Archery Instructor
  • Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI)
  • Experience working in outdoor learning or youth work
  • Experience of delivering other outdoor activities such as coasteering, gorge walking, bushcraft, team challenges
  • Experience of working with participants with additional support needs
  • Current First Aid Certificate (minimum 2-day Outdoor First Aid)

Trainee Scholarship 2026

Outfit Moray Trainee Scholarships are available for up to one year for young people aged 16 or 17yrs old, with successful candidates finishing before their 18th birthday. A full job description can be found here.

Applicants will require to have a genuine interest in outdoor activities and working with young people. To apply, send an email or letter, telling us a little about yourself, your interests in the outdoors and working with young people.

Job Purpose:

  • To assist in the day to day operation of Outfit Moray and contribute to the overall development of outdoor learning and adventure programmes.
  • To work in collaboration with the Outfit Moray team and to assist the outdoor instructors in the delivery of outdoor activity sessions.
  • To support participants engaged in outdoor education programmes.

Daily Tasks:

  • Support instructor and participants engaged in a range of outdoor learning and adventure activities.
  • Shared responsibility for equipment and assisting with maintaining equipment.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive culture.

Activities:

  • Assisting in the instruction and leading of groups in a range of activities
  • Help deliver activities, events and programmes to children, young people, families and adult groups.
  • Help instruct, lead or guide participants and groups in specific outdoor techniques and skills.
  • Observe safety in-line with current operational procedures, codes of practice and arrangements.
  • Motivate and support young people through appropriate techniques and styles of leadership.
  • Where appropriate and within range of ability, provide advice to young people and a positive role model.
  • Seek support and advice from the Lead Instructor regarding any technical or confidential matters.
  • Maintain a professional approach at all times.
