About Us  

Releasing Potential is a charity dedicated to providing outdoor education experiences for young people with special educational needs (SEN). We provide adventurous activities to engage children in education.   

 

Job Summary  

To deliver safe, engaging, adventurous and educational outdoor activities, that are a pathway to engaging with education.   

 

Application Criteria  

Applicants must hold Instructor Qualifications in at least one activity. We have a particular need for water sport instructors, e.g. sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding. 

 

Person Specification & Requirements 

Essential: 

  • Qualifications: At least 1 qualification at the level of Instructor in a water based activity and an Instructor qualification in another discipline. 
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of instructing experience 
  • Safety: A knowledge of AALA regulations and risk management. 
  • First Aid: 2-day outdoor first aid qualification (minimum). 
  • Licence: Full UK driving licence 
  • Attitude: An interest in personal adventure, calm under pressure, and ability to inspire.  

 

Desirable: 

  • Additional Instructor Qualifications, e.g. RYA Powerboat L2, Lowland Leader, Climbing Wall Instructor, UK Paddlesport Leader, MIAS Instructor 
  • A qualification which covers Education & Training. 
  • Experience with SEN (Special Educational Needs) groups and understanding of Safeguarding 

  

Role Overview  

1. Operational Safety and Compliance  

  • Ensure all outdoor activities meet or exceed Health & Safety guidelines, AALA licensing, and company standard operating procedures (SOPs) 
  • Help to look after equipment safety checks, repairs, and maintenance in coordination with the Chief Instructor 
  • Carry out dynamic risk assessments and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies 

 

2. Activity Delivery and Programming  

  • Deliver high-quality, adventurous, and educational activities  
  • Assist the development of innovative, progressive outdoor programmes 
  • Provide pastoral care and personal development opportunities for participants 

 

3. Administration and Logistics  

  • Maintain accurate records of session delivery of activities and safeguarding. 
  • Complete administrative tasks via computer systems 

  

4. Commitment to Safeguarding Children  

• Staff must follow safeguarding policies, attend regular training, report concerns to the DSL
