Outdoor Education Centre Trainee Position
Plas Pencelli is a vibrant Outdoor Education Centre owned by Swindon Borough Council. With a strong team ethos and a commitment to delivering high-quality, off site educational experiences, we primarily serve school groups during term time. Our experienced staff, excellent equipment, and access to premier South Wales venues ensure impactful and adventurous learning.
This role, is a mix of paid site work and unpaid training, it offers hands on experience supporting outdoor instructors, assisting with activities, learning systems and techniques, carrying out site maintenance, and being the first responder for any overnight concerns. Assistants receive structured training, including support toward relevant NGB qualifications, and are mentored to ensure continuous personal and professional development.
Key Requirements:
- Must be 18 or over
- Hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic
- Experience working with young people and in outdoor environments
Key Details:
- Salary: £25,185 FTE (0.2 equivalent), plus £47 per night for each overnight duty (approximately 75 a year)
Possibility to earn extra for any additional site work undertaken.
- Working Hours: Due to the nature of outdoor centre work, hours can vary between 30 and 48 hours per week.
- Food & Accommodation: Private room in shared flat, all food provided when on site.
- Training: On-the-job learning in all areas of centre life and support for NGB qualifications
- Safeguarding: Full compliance with child protection policies; DBS clearance required
- Career Progression: Exceptional trainees may be offered paid Junior Instructor roles
- Extras: 28 days holiday (pro rata), loan of outdoor equipment, PPE provided.
