The Mendip Way
"To Inspire Everyone, Everywhere, to Make Time for Adventure"
The Role
You’ll work in a variety of outdoor environments with a wide range of groups. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team to facilitate activity sessions. Each day, you could be training new instructors, working with schools, corporate, families, private groups, or individuals. The majority of our instructors work for us year-round, expanding their skills to gain winter qualifications.
This is more than just a job. You won’t just be an instructor: you’ll be a coach, a facilitator, a mentor, a guide, an inspiration. We’re looking for enthusiastic people to inspire others through exciting adventures.
About You
Your attitude and personality is paramount to us: we’re looking for someone who has a positive outlook, professionalism, promptness and who works well under pressure. You’ll possess strong communication skills, and excellent presentation skills and enjoy a varied and challenging programme.
We are looking to employ someone with a range of experience, qualifications and skills:
If you are an experienced instructor/facilitator with higher-level qualifications, this may be the perfect role for you, leading our advanced sessions, training other staff members or coaching on our Outdoor Instructor Training Courses.
To run our activity sessions we insist on people holding valid, up to date qualifications for the activity (if one exists). Where qualifications don’t exist, staff will be in-house trained and signed off as competent.
Qualifications
Must have at least two of the following;
- Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI)
- BC Paddlesport Instructor, Leader or Coach
- BCA - LCLA L1 – ideally with Mendip caves
- D1 Licence + CPC
- Ski/Snowboard qualifications such as BASI L1 / SSE L1 +
- ArcheryGB Leader
- National Smallbore Rifle Association YPS
Other desirable qualifications;
- Bushcraft experience
- Knowledge of team development and initiative exercises
- Walking qualification
- British Orienteering – TOP 1 or 2
- DofE Supervisor/Assessor
If you do not hold the necessary qualifications then we could still have opportunities for you. Please look at our Apprenticeship or Outdoor Instructor Training Course – we have a strong history of training instructors to be ready for working in the sector.
