Outdoor Tutor / Instructor

£31,000 – £37,000 pro rata | Full time (some evenings and weekends)

About Water Park

Water Park is a 65-acre residential outdoor education centre on the shores of Coniston Water and part of the Eric Wright Group.

We work primarily with young people from deprived areas of the North West, delivering high-quality outdoor education on a busy residential site with boats, workshops and extensive grounds.

Around 75% of our work is with primary schools, alongside secondary courses, adult groups, NGB awards and a significant amount of RYA training, including powerboat courses.

The Role

We are seeking an Outdoor Tutor / Instructor to join our tutorial team, working directly with children and young people through adventurous outdoor programmes.

This is a delivery-focused role. You will typically work with the same group throughout their course, leading activities each day and helping them get the most from their time at Water Park.

Alongside delivery, all staff contribute to the wider running of a busy residential centre and to the development of progressive adventure programmes. One of our current goals is for 50% of our niche clients to engage in sustained adventure pathways rather than one-off experiences.

Salary will reflect experience, qualifications and your ability to settle quickly and thrive in the role.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver a wide range of outdoor activities to children, young people and adults
  • Work with groups across multi-day residential courses
  • Create engaging, safe and inclusive learning experiences
  • Deliver RYA and other NGB courses where qualified
  • Use effective reviewing techniques to support learning
  • Contribute to the day-to-day operation of the centre

Occasionally, this may include supporting wider operational tasks such as logistics or site support.

About You

You are likely to be a good fit if you:

  • Enjoy working outdoors with children and young people
  • Are confident delivering a range of activities
  • Build positive relationships and adapt to different ages and needs
  • Are professional, calm and safety-focused
  • Are flexible, practical and team-orientated
  • Care about the wider value of outdoor education

Qualifications and Experience

You do not need to hold every qualification listed.

Useful qualifications include:

  • RYA Dinghy, Windsurf or Wingsurf Instructor
  • BC Paddlesport qualifications (Touring Leader or higher)
  • Mountain Training awards (ML, RCI or higher)
  • BCA Cave and Mine Leader
  • D1 driving licence
  • Outdoor or education-related qualification

Valuable experience includes:

  • Working in an outdoor education or residential centre
  • Working with primary-aged groups
  • Delivering NGB or certificated courses
  • SEN or inclusive practice experience

We actively support development and progression for the right person.

Pay and Practical Details

  • £31,000 – £37,000 pro rata (dependent on experience and impact)
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Optional BUPA joining contribution
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays (Christmas closedown applies)
  • Full PPE and use of centre equipment and boats
