Join us at Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD).
SOLD provides carefully facilitated, bespoke programmes in the outdoors, creating positive learning outcomes and experiences using our beautifully located facilities and centres across Surrey. Staff will have a primary base and will work at other sites at times. Our centres are located.
- High Ashurst - Mickleham, Dorking, Surrey, RH5 6DQ
- Henley Fort and Angel Blue - Guildford, Surrey, GU2 4RH
- Thames Young Mariners - Ham near Kingston, Surrey, TW10 7RX
Please note, there is no on-site accommodation available, so would suit individuals living in commutable distance.
About the role
Our Outdoor Learning Instructor (Academy) role is suitable for individuals new to the outdoor learning industry or who have worked a few seasons in the industry. We are planning our next cohort to commence in Spring 2026 (1st April) offering a 6-month fixed term contract.
What are we looking for?
- Previous group work experience in an outdoor or other setting
- Your interest and passion for the outdoors
- Good leadership skills
- Previous experience of working with children or young people
- Excellent communication skills
- We are particularly interested in hearing from paddlers, climbers and those who have an interest in delivering our WW2 Homefront experience!

Applicants need to have excellent communication skills, be able to build rapport and empathise with others and be confident to lead groups in an outdoor setting.
