Shores of Lake Windermere – Training and Experience – Excellent staff team Join our team to deliver inspiring outdoor learning programmes and springboard your career. Join our team to deliver inspiring outdoor learning experiences. YMCA Lakeside Outdoor Education Centre has a long and successful history of running Summer Day Camps for young people throughout the summer holiday period. The day camps are non-residential and located in the grounds of our large and natural site on the shores of Windermere, 3 miles north of Newby Bridge.
Young people are dropped off in the morning by their parents / carers or come on the bus which collects them from surrounding villages and towns. During the day they are engaged in a range of fun activities, centred on outdoor mini adventures, with plenty of ball games and general running around going on too. The young people work in groups according to age, which are 7-9, 10-11 and 12-15 years old.
We are looking for support people to help things run smoothly for 3 weeks within the summer holiday period. These weeks offer 37.5 hours work across 5 days (20-24 July, 17-21 Aug and 24-28 Aug). Lakeside instructors work at a ratio of 1:12, and therefore we need extra pairs of hands in these weeks to help with a multitude of jobs associated with looking after young people and ensuring they have a great week in the fresh air at Lakeside.
If you have outdoor experience or qualifications, that’s great, but we also need caring and sensible young adults who have experience of working with young people, which could be outdoor, sports or community settings. Job pre-requisites would be a positive attitude, great at working in teams, and a willingness to enjoy yourself whilst working hard.
This job is for you if…
· You are passionate about creating great experiences for children and young people in the outdoors
· You are friendly, enthusiastic and hardworking
· You are a resilient and confident team worker who can also work unsupervised using your own initiative
· You have prior experience of working with young people.
· You are able to work outdoors positively, even if it rains a bit.
· You are available from 20th July until 28th August 2026 for 3 weeks work– there may be more.
This role would suit a student who wants quality work and experience with groups, across the summer break If you would like an informal chat about the work opportunities on offer, please contact Dr Martin Barry by email [email protected] or mob. 07837 015317.
Successful applicants will be required to complete an application form and Enhanced DBS Disclosure (unless you are enrolled on the updating service), which is paid for by the Centre. Please note that pay rates are due to increase in April 2026.
Closing date for the role is Monday 9th March 2026 by 9:00am. Applications submitted and/or received after this time will not be considered.
