YEG offers mentoring support using the extensive experience of its membership across a vast range of expedition settings. Three main areas of support:
Independent ventures and self-led expeditions
For anyone considering a solo or small group expedition, or a schoolteacher or youth leader planning a self-led venture overseas, YEG can provide a mentor to guide and support planning and preparation. The mentor will have experience of the chosen environment together with an understanding of the group's needs and expectations, providing the additional confidence needed to plan an appropriately safe and successful venture. YEG is keen to encourage independent ventures that allow for leadership development and engagement of group members in planning and management, the support of a mentor can help unlock a team's potential.
Pre-Evaluation Mentoring Support
For those submitting venture plans for evaluation, or a commercial organisation working towards corporate self-declaration of conformity to BS 8848, YEG can provide mentoring support to guide preparation of the appropriate evidence. The mentor remains totally independent from the Evaluation Panel and exercises the utmost confidentiality and commercial sensitivity, guiding decision-making on policy, procedures and protocols and helping interpret the requirements of the British Standard.
Post-Evaluation Support
Where the Evaluation Panel is unable to grant a statement of conformity or approval, a mentor is available to help address the identified areas of shortcoming, remaining independent from the Evaluation Panel and assisting with a re-submission that clearly addresses all requirements of the Standard.
