Consultation on the proposed Schools (Residential Outdoor Education) (Scotland) Bil

Consultation on the proposed Schools (Residential Outdoor Education) (Scotland) Bil

Consultation on the proposed Schools (Residential Outdoor Education) (Scotland) Bill is now live at the Scottish Parliament.

Very briefly:

this would give young people in Scotland between the ages of 12 -16 a residential outdoor education experience of 5 days and 4 nights while at school.

it proposes to limit the funding to state and grant-aided schools only.

- we propose the development of a "quality framework" agreement between residential providers and HMIE(Schools inspectorate).

- we ask for views on a number of different proposals for funding the policy.

- other general but important questions around the equity and sustainability of the proposal are sought.

Further details and the consultation survey can be found on the Scottish Parliament website:

The views of IOL Members would be very welcome.
