Half of UK's outdoor education centres face closure due to coronavirus

Institute 0 372 Article rating: No rating

Half of all outdoor education centres face closure, with 15,000 jobs at risk due to the coronavirus pandemic, the industry has warned.

Outdoor education has long been part of British culture with over two million children a year taking part. But since March, pupils have missed out on over 1.5 million visits, costing the sector an estimated £500m in lost revenue and over 6,000 job losses.

Industry chiefs are calling on the Government  to review the guidance in November, in line with recognised science and health and safety protocols, and lay out a roadmap for the reopening of the school travel sector.
