Outdoor education cuts short-sighted says council leader

A council leader has accused three neighbouring authorities of being "short-sighted" over the demise of an outdoor education service.

A centre at Talybont, Powys, will close after Newport and Torfaen scrapped funding for the Gwent Outdoor Education Service Partnership, with Blaenau Gwent saying it would follow suit.

UK government consultation on ‘Out of school settings voluntary safeguarding code of practice

The Department for Education’s Consultation on a “voluntary safeguarding code of practice” provides an opportunity for the outdoor industry to steer government with sector specific insights.  It’s important that, in drawing up its guidelines, the DfE have a balanced view which includes the outdoor activity providers perspective.  The settings  cited by the DfE  as ‘out of school’ do not explicitly refer to outdoor activities (although scouting and guiding, for example,  do involve elements of this).
