Which Type of Membership is right for me?

You can join as an individual or an organisation, with a fee structure that recognises the different ways in which outdoor learning is delivered.

  • Individual
  • Organisation
  • Joint

This is your personal professional membership, which gives you all the individual member benefits and is designed for all those who are actively delivering outdoor learning, in all fields (and rivers, mountains, seas, woodlands, etc).

If you live Overseas the postage is a little more expensive, which is reflected in the price. As a registered Full Time Student, your discounted membership grade still offers you deals and discounts, but not Horizons (unless you specifically request it; costs extra). Concessionary rate for the over 60’s too.

What is included for Individuals:

  • Horizons magazine quarterly delivered to your door
  • E-newsletters and updates to stay in touch with the community and wider industry
  • Free confidential legal and H&S advice
  • Access to Professional Practice & Professional Discussion Groups
  • Membership rate to attend IOL Regional networking and events
  • Access to and maintenance of IOL Professional Accreditation

  • Discounts on equipment, liability cover, courses, activities, publications and services
Note: All members must adhere to the professional and environmental Codes of Conduct

To recognise the variety of outdoor learning organisations in the sector, we have 3 levels of membership which are based on the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) outdoor learning staff in the organisation. These can be permanent or contracted staff employed by your organisation. All organisations get the main benefits (details below) but the number of free job adverts included varies depending on the level of membership.

Organisation level 1 – 1-5 FTE outdoor learning staff. Includes 2 free job adverts per year and free course listings.

Organisation level 2 – 6-20 FTE outdoor learning staff. Includes 5 free job adverts per year and free course listings.

Organisation level 3 – 21+ FTE outdoor learning staff. Includes 10 free job adverts per year and free course listings.

What is included for Organisations:

  • FREE Job adverts (on the IOL Job site which has in excess of 50,000 hits per month)

The number of free adverts is dependent on the level of Organisational Membership.

  • FREE Course/events web listings

If you are running a business as a sole trader and join IOL as an Organisational member at Level 1 to access the organisational benefits including listing your courses and placing 2 free job adverts on our website
AND would like to access IOL Accreditation
We can offer you a reduced student membership fee of £26 rather than the full individual membership.
