Benefits of Membership

Benefits of Membership

Do you use the outdoors to make a difference for others?

We support you through providing you with a voice, a community, professional development and guidance.

Membership of the Institute demonstrates your professionalism and integrity in outdoor learning. It shows that you and your organisation are not just technically proficient and safe, but that you take the learning you deliver seriously and strive to be the best you can be.

You support, develop, guide and influence others as they learn in the outdoors. We provide the guidance, professional standards, representation and community to support what you do.

Some of our members are organisations, you can see them on this map. Others are accredited individuals, you can see them on this map.

Community

Individuals: Connect with like-minded people and learn from a trusted and vibrant network of outdoor learning professionals. We host events at a regional, national and specialist area level.

Organisations: Develop a peer network to stay in touch professionally and personally. Support your team as they do the same. Connect with the rich outdoor mix to challenge your direction and give you confidence you know what is happening in the sector as a whole.

Professional Development

Individuals: Establish and maintain yourself as a professional. We provide publications, courses, accreditation and job site to support you throughout your Outdoor Career.

Organisations: Support, develop and grow your staff team through courses, accreditation and jobs. Membership demonstrates your commitment to professionalism. Benchmark your courses through the Approved Provider scheme. Advertise jobs and courses for free.

Voice

Individuals: Be a part of something bigger. We offer you the opportunity to help influence and represent our rich outdoor learning sector. Let’s spread the word together.

Organisations: We represent and champion the work you do at a national level to gain recognition and instigate change. If we don’t tell them, they won’t know. Lend the weight of your organisation to the combined Outdoor voice.

Guidance

Individuals: Know where to come for all the latest research, good practice guidelines, professional advice and support that underpins your practice. This is the work you don’t have time to do on your own.

Organisations: Share your outcomes more effectively through a focal research point. Easily find guidance and professional codes. Know where to turn to when more is needed.

Which Type of Membership is right for me?

You can join as an individual or an organisation, with a fee structure that recognises the different ways in which outdoor learning is delivered.
