We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Instructor to join our team at Woodhouse Park, Bristol. You will join us on a full time permanent contract working 40 hours per week. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £22,193 per annum.

About the role:

The Lead Instructor-Woodhouse Park will work with some of the country’s most inspirational locations this is an opportunity to join the Scout Adventures team.  Our instructors inspire, coach and teach thousands of young people each year in the art of Adventure. Learning by doing is at the heart of Scouting and that’s exactly what you’ll be helping young people to do.

We’re looking for a Lead Instructor to join our team who is just as passionate as we are about getting young people outdoors to have an adventure. 


What will you be doing?

Line management of instructing team (staff, volunteers and Apprentices)

o Pastoral supervision and regular one-to-ones.

o Line management of staff and supervision of volunteers.

o Coaching and mentoring the team.

o Assisting other staff where needed, including taking bookings, checking in/out groups and liaising with guests.

o Managing external contractors and freelance staff.

Instructing and Training

o Delivering training courses to internal and external clients

o Delivering adventurous activity sessions to external clients when needed.

o Monitoring the safety and quality of activity sessions.


o Maintaining accurate records of staff training, assessment and competency, equipment and activity facilities, operating procedures and risk assessments.

o Creating group programmes and staff timetables.

o Manage activity equipment and maintenance including static bases and PPE.

o Management of activity budgets including submission of invoices for payments through IPOS, this may include cash management.

o Ensuring relevant checks, processes and paperwork are maintained to meet external and internal accreditation standards

Duty Manager

o First point of contact for management of the centre on a rota basis; including managing the site team and any service crews.

o Providing an ‘on call’ service during out of hours times for guests on centre, including support with first aid and safeguarding (with another manager available to escalate).

Other duties

o General maintenance and housekeeping tasks as necessary to run the centre and supporting the Scout

Active Support Unit.

As part of the small Scout Adventures team based at Woodhouse Park it’s vital that you’re confident to work independently and are a self-starter. Our network of Adventure Locations are spread right across the UK; meaning that travel and nights away from home will be an occasional requirement of this role.
