Millfield School is seeking an outdoor adventure coach to support our extensive outdoor adventure programme  including: Climbing, Dinghy Sailing, Mountain Biking, Ten tors, The Duke of Edinburgh Award, Ski Racing, Paddle Sports and UK and Overseas Expeditions. Additionally, the post holder will assist the Director of Outdoor Adventure with the delivery and organisation of the Year 9 outdoor adventure programme.


Millfield is an independent boarding school with outstanding pastoral and co-curricular activities, set in the heart of Somerset. We cater for approximately 1230 pupils aged 13 to 18, all of whom are engaged in numerous extra-curricular activities. The school is exceptionally well resourced for these activities.


The post will start on the 24th April 2019. The role is a permanent, 42-week per year position averaging 42 hours per week (including some evenings, weekend and overnights) which will be planned termly to meet departmental needs. Due to the nature of this role there may be occasions when you will be required to work more than 42 hours per week, in these instances you will receive time off in lieu to be taken during the school holidays as agreed with your line manager. In return you will receive a salary of £20,245 - £21,245 per annum dependent on experience.


The successful candidate will hold:

  • Summer Mountain Leader (MLs)
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award Accredited Assessor   
  • Outdoor First Aid
  • Be able to demonstrate basic administrative skills
  • Have proven experience of working with young people in an outdoor setting


Experience / Qualifications in the below would be highly desirable;

·       D1 driving licence

·       Indoor / Outdoor Rock climbing

·       Paddle Sports

·       Dingy Sailing

·       Caving

·       Mountain Biking

·       Skiing
