Contract: Grant Funded (BOOSTSY)
Salary: £19,500
Location: Sheffield
Work Times: 37.5 Hours per week Monday to Friday 9-5pm
Responsible to: Project Co-ordinator

Main Role
- The project team has a main duty to provide structured programmes of development for local young people with mild and moderate learning difficulties which meets the needs of the group, the individual participants and the aims of the funded programme.
- Whilst not essential, we would welcome applicants with outdoor qualifications

Contract Information
- Contract ends in September 2019
- We hope to capture continuation funding to allow the project to run further than this date


Co-operate closely with other project staff to ensure:

·         Development of purposeful relationships with individuals and groups of young people

·         Plan, deliver and help evaluate structured, developmental group work with young people

·         Promote the programme to local young people with a view to recruiting them into the programme

·         Network with other local organisations in order to share best practice and increase the range of opportunities available to the young people on the project

Additional Responsibilities

·         Ensure that full and accurate records are kept of the programme and the development of the young people in order that comprehensive and accurate performance information can be presented to funders and managers

·         Attend staff meetings and other meetings as appropriately required

·         Share responsibility for the care of premises and equipment

·         Carry out any other reasonable duties within the function commensurate with the level of responsibilities of the post




Ability to communicate and engage with young people with mild and moderate learning difficulties
Ability to work within organisational policies and guidelines
Effective personal organisation
Good oral and written presentation skills
Ability to work with local communities and their members

Full driving licence 
Some form of relevant Youth Work, Teaching, Group Leadership or Development Training qualification

A minimum of one year’s experience of working effectively with young people

Outdoor qualifications

Current First Aid qualification
A minibus entitlement on driving licence
NGB sports/activity leadership awards

Evidence of constructive work in the community especially outreach
Working with young people exhibiting challenging behaviour with mild and moderate learning difficulties
Managing volunteers (recruiting, retention of and supporting)
Using the outdoors and adventurous activities as a developmental tool

Setting up or participating in a Community Mentoring scheme
Development of life skills

Youth work issues

Evidence of challenging discrimination
Evidence of environmental care

Terms and Conditions:

Salary Scale Points: £19,500 
Other Pay: N/A

37.5 Hours per week Monday to Friday 9-5pm

Subject to eligibility, the employee will be enrolled into our work place pension scheme in line with legislation unless they choose to opt out

Based at:
Sheffield Office

3 months probationary period

Travel requirements
This post is only required to travel to regional offices on rare occasions.

Travel Allowances:
Mileage is paid at 45p per mile

Child Protection
This post does involve direct work with young people, and the workplace has programmes which are delivered to young people aged 14 upwards. Please note you will be asked to complete an enhanced CRB check if you are successful at interview.
