We are looking for passionate Outdoor Education instructors who are able to use the outdoors as a vehicle for personal and team development; you will be a skilled facilitator, able to adapt your style to a variety of customers and be completely committed to using the outdoors to develop, re-focus and inspire people. You won’t be afraid to challenge behaviour and can easily gain respect through your actions and integrity. You will have a confident and measured approach to working with young people and you will understand to expect the unexpected.
You will lead engaging and effective Outdoor development weeks and weekends, delivering practical and theoretical activity sessions focused on personal and team development; you will be expected to facilitate all of these sessions and therefore should also have experience of team processes, leadership styles, team roles and improving communication.
At X Adventure you will work with people from many social backgrounds but in particular those who experience complicated life circumstances. Through the provision of centre based, wilderness and activity led personal and team development programmes, you will actively improve the confidence, motivation and core life skills these individuals need to make a positive change in their lives.
Applicants must be aged 18 or over, and must hold two or more NGB qualifications in either paddle sports, roped activities, archery, walking or mountaineering.
You must have experience of working on developmental programmes with challenging young people in the outdoors.
Experience of delivering team dynamics, DofE, bushcraft, low ropes, raft building and wilderness trails would be highly desirable as would any youth working qualifications and experience.
It would be preferable to have a valid first aid certificate and a full driving license. A towing licence would be highly desirable.
An enhanced DBS clearance is required before commencement of any employment.
Working hours will need to be flexible; including work at evenings and weekends.
The work will predominately be located at our development centre in Horsford, Norwich, Norfolk; however, there are expeditions and groups that are located throughout the UK, including Scotland, the Peaks, North Wales and the Brecon Beacons. The Outdoor Education instructor will be expected to also work with these groups.
