Expedition Leader & Outdoor Instructor (6-month full-time)
Following a period of development and significant growth, Adventure Expeditions is looking to employ 2 full-time instructors throughout the main summer season. AE is a leading provider of DofE and private expeditions in the UK and abroad (see www.adventure-expeditions.net for more details.) Each position is offered as a seasonal contract, however there may be opportunity to develop a role further as the business progresses into 2021. There is some flexibility in terms of a start date, however the ideal 6-month period of employment would run from Monday 23rd March 2020 to Sunday 20th September, with freelancer opportunities arising before and after this date to extend the season significantly.
DofE expedition leadership and assisting in the planning, logistics and management of expeditions is the primary component of this role, coupled with a variety of opportunities to work on a wider range of courses and programmes that AE delivers throughout the year (including the possibility of work on programmes run by Adventure Expertise, our sister company – www.adventure-expertise.co.uk).
This role offers the opportunity for career development within a friendly team for someone wishing to specialise in expedition leadership and enhance their wider skills within the outdoor industry.
AE offices and training base are in Hathersage, Derbyshire, in the heart of the Peak District National Park and a short drive from Sheffield. The role will be based from Hathersage but will also entail in the region of 85 days on expedition at different locations across the UK with the potential for occasional overseas programmes.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: AE requires personable, confident, well organised instructors who share our commitment to delivering high quality programmes that are both inspirational and give the chance to experience real adventure. A genuine commitment to caring for the experience of every individual worked with is essential.
Minimum requirements: Summer ML, 1st aid, DBS, full driving licence, experience of working on DofE programmes.
Desirable: Ability to self-manage, teaching experience, logistical admin/office experience, other outdoor qualifications/experience – specifically the RCI award or higher.
PAY: £18,000 - £22,000 pro-rata salary (dependent on experience & qualifications) + £500 equipment and training budget.
