Closing date: Midnight, Sunday 10th November 2019
A unique opportunity to lead and shape the incomparable Camas Centre based in a stunningly beautiful and remote bay on the Island of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. Camas is a residential outdoor activity centre with the purposes of delivering personal development (particularly with groups from disadvantaged backgrounds), community building, a simple lifestyle and an environmental ethos. Camas requires a committed and compassionate leader to manage and guide the development of the centre for all users and staff alike.
The Camas Centre is situated on Mull about 3 miles from Iona and about 30 minutes’ walk across beautiful (and boggy!) moorland from the road end. This lends itself to a sense of isolation, adventure and an appreciation of the simpler things in life.
We are looking to recruit a new Coordinator who will be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and management of the Centre and, under the guidance of the Camas Committee, its strategic development.
Camas has a core Resident Staff Team of up to 5 (Co-ordinator and 4 Resident Staff Team Members) and up to 7 volunteer staff during the guest season. Through the Camas Resident Staff Team, the Co-ordinator is responsible for the planning, co-ordination and running of the weekly programme, and for the integration and support of all staff and guests into the common life at Camas. The successful candidate will possess excellent organisational and management skills including managing budgets. They should have an interest in, and at least basic experience of activities offered at the centre – Kayaking, Abseiling, Walking and Wild Camping, and an awareness of risk.
This post is offered on a 3 year fixed term residential contract. Resident Staff receive free full board and lodgings as well as a monthly allowance of approximately £630 (2019 rates). Other benefits include an optional contributory pension scheme, re-imbursement of travel costs at start and on completion of contract, annual kit allowance, and removal & resettlement allowances. The successful candidate will require confirmation of membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme prior to taking up this appointment.
If you have any questions about the role, please address these in the first instance to Darragh Keenaghan, Camas Coordinator. Camascoord@iona.org.uk
Contract Start Date: February 2020, 3 year fixed term residential contract.
