Hampshire Outdoor Centres is seeking a Senior Instructor to assist in the delivery and development of Runway’s End Outdoor Centre in Aldershot near Farnborough. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join Hampshire County Council’s Outdoor Centres management team.
Hampshire Outdoor Centres is a group of four centres; three in Hampshire and one in the Brecon Beacons. Owned and operated by Hampshire County Council, each centre delivers a diverse high-quality outdoor education service to schools, youth groups and corporate clients. The service also offers a range of recreational facilities to the residents of Hampshire and beyond. Hampshire Outdoor Centres has a reputation for operating to the highest standards.
Runway’s End has excellent purpose-built activity and accommodation facilities. The centre provides high-quality bunkhouse accommodation for 71 guests, as well as a large camping ground and a Glamping Pod Village. Located on the banks of the Basingstoke Canal, canoeing and a range of indoor and outdoor activities are on offer.
This is a permanent role and offers a real opportunity for the right candidate to make a significant impact on the development of the centre and contribute to the wider strategic direction of the Outdoor Service. Experience in managing a small team is essential, with responsibility for the management of instructional staff. You will need to write and develop outdoor educational programmes for a range of clients with varying needs. Experience of working within budgets is essential, as is the ability to develop new income-generating opportunities.
It is essential you hold Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) and/or ERCA and BC instructor award (or equivalent) plus experience and qualifications in a range of other relevant activities like archery, air-rifle shooting and high-ropes. You will be enthusiastic and able to communicate the real value of outdoor learning to schools and other customer groups. You should have a broad experience of working in the outdoor industry. A full induction and development plan will be put in place for the successful candidate.
Runway’s End works closely with Rushmoor Borough Council and Blackwater Valley Scouts who use the centre in the evenings and weekends.
