Salary: £24,590 - £31,371
Location: Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre, St Austell, Cornwall
Closing date: 5th January 2020
About the Role
Cornwall Outdoors is part of the Education Service with Cornwall Council. Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre is a residential facility delivering adventure activities to schools and other clients all year round.
The Chief Instructor role is crucial to the effective operation of the Centre as you will be leading the instructor team on a day to day basis and will be a role model to fellow professionals. You will need excellent people skills in managing colleagues and working with visiting leaders. You will need excellent customer care skills to meet client expectations in delivering a high quality experience to the participants. Attention to detail is important as you will be responsible for ensuring Centre policies and procedures are followed in line with AALA requirements.
Given the regular use of St Austell Bay, water-sports qualifications are essential, typically Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Dinghy Senior Instructor, British Canoeing Sea Kayak/Canoe Coach (moderate water) and BRAWA Coasteering Guide. The Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI) award would also be advantageous. Ideally the capability to tow trailers would be part of your skill-set.
Interviews will be held week commencing 13th January. This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check. This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
Cornwall Council is committed to safeguarding and is an equal opportunities employer.
