2 x Programme Manager / Full-time Lead Instructor with Adventure Expeditions

Adventure Expeditions is a well-respected not-for-profit organisation providing a variety of outdoor activity programmes, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and residentials in the UK and overseas. We are seeking to employ 2 instructors to take on some client and programme management responsibilities alongside instructing, primarily on expedition programmes but also across a wide variety of activities as qualifications and skills allow.

Your primary responsibility during office-time will be to act as the client manager for a number of important school clients; liaising with them to set-up and run programmes according to their needs and then managing the logistics, communications and delivery planning etc. to ensure the programmes run smoothly, safely and with excellent outcomes for the participants.

Alongside this, around half of your working time will be in a lead instructor role on various programmes throughout the year. You’ll need to be a confident and capable instructor with the ability to lead teams with a fun, friendly, respectful and professional manner.

Alongside your allocated client-management you will have an important role in the delivery aspects of all our operations, working as part of our core instructor team and working closely with our full-time office team to ensure that all clients are well served and key jobs are completed on time.

The role includes some out-of-hours duty management in rotation with other instructional staff and the opportunity for significant development, working in a small team of experienced and well-qualified professionals. Opportunities for delivering occasional other work/NGB progression is available if a candidate is interested in, for example, winter climbing/mountaineering, rock climbing or NGB delivery through our sister company, Adventure Expertise. · Ability to lead by example as an experienced instructor in a busy outdoor centre environment and build rapport with our instructor team, clients and young people;

· Experience in delivering programmes to client requirements, managing logistics and communications with instructors for programme delivery in practice;

· Good communication skills and the competence and confidence to make decisions relating to risk management and quality delivery;

· Ability to prioritise workloads, work under own initiative and ensure that programmes are delivered to the highest standards;

· Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of clients, colleagues, freelance staff team, suppliers and young people;

· 1st Aid, DBS, ML Summer, full and clean UK driving licence, DofE programme provision experience. Strong recent instructional experience including working on large outdoor programmes with a range of clients;

· Good standard of IT skills and written communications, office admin experience, professional, organised friendly manner.


· RCI, Higher/other outdoor qualifications, management experience, logistics experience, office experience, customer-service experience.

PAY: £21,000 - £24,000 full-time contract. Pay dependent on qualifications/experience. Personal training and development opportunities. Base of work is Hathersage, Peak District. Usual working pattern of Monday – Friday with regular weekend, overnight commitments and travel dependent on programme needs.
