Outdoor Activities Apprentice with The Anderton Centre

The Anderton Centre is Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative (LOAI) residential outdoor activity and conferencing facility and is part of the University of Bolton Group. The Centre is situated in the shores of the beautiful Rivington Reservoir in the heart of the West Pennie Moors.  

The Centre is only a short drive from the motorway networks, so is able to serve many regions of the North West and the location boast superb water facilities and a rural setting ideal for a wide range of land activities.

The Anderton Centre are currently looking to recruit passionate and professional dynamic individuals to join their team!

The Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship focuses on training individuals who are new to the sector to run safe and enjoyable activity sessions with children and adults.

There is no set syllabus or prescribed training course – employers negotiate what training their apprentices require with training providers (and at what price). Relevant qualifications and NGB awards will be included.

This is a 13-month contract £4.81 per hour 30-hour week. You will also benefit from Holidays and sick pay. The Apprenticeship also includes opportunities to gain national governing body award qualifications.

Day to day duties:

The Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship focuses on training individuals who are new to the sector to run safe and enjoyable activity sessions with children and adults.

Essential Skills:

To apply for this apprenticeship, you must have the following skills and abilities: –

A passion and genuine interest in outdoor activities

Strong communication skills

Strong organisational skills

Good problem-solving skills

A good work ethic and willingness to learn and get involved

Comfortable standing in front of a group

Very good at time keeping

Able to work in adverse weather conditions

A good level of fitness

Essential qualifications:

Minimum of GCSE English and Mathematics grade 3 or D

Desirable skills and qualifications, but not essential:

Some experience in outdoor activities

5 GCSE’s (A* – C / 4 – 9)

Driving license and own transport

A good level of IT skills and able to work independently on computers.

An understanding of suitable outdoor clothing and footwear

A good understanding of personal admin

Future Prospects:

Successful candidates may be offered a Summer contract that could lead to full time employment.

Other Information:

Applicants must be aware of the Anderton Centre’s rural setting and take note.

The Anderton centre is, 0.8 Miles from the nearest Bus stop (regular 125 route). The road and driveway are mostly unlit and without pavements. If you are dependent on public transport, please take this into account when applying for this position.

Free car parking and cycle storage available on site. 

Essential Details:

Hourly rate: Apprentice National Minimum Wage

Contract: 13 month contract

Working Hours:  30 hours a week (annualised hours).  Can include weekends and evenings. You will also benefit from Holidays, sick pay. 

Closing Date: Thursday 1st December 2022

Interview Date: Wednesday 14th December 2022

Candidates who are successful with the application process will be invited in for a non-formal interview on Wednesday 14th December 2022 the interviews will be mostly practical, as you will be expected to partake in some of our activities on and off site. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask us any questions and have a detailed look at what the apprenticeship will include.

Possible Start Date: Wednesday 1st February 2023
