About us

Herts Young Mariners Base (HYMB) has been delivering outdoor education for over 60 years. Based in the Lea Valley Park we are on our own private 8 acre site with 2 lakes and  have an  onsite climbing and caving complex. We work with a wide range of groups delivering everything from taster sessions for beginners to formal coach education and assessment courses.

This is a full time permanent position. Your contract will be equivalent to full time hours of 37 hours per week but annualised based on customer demand.  This will include evenings and weekends working with the majority of hours worked during our main season, from March till November. Annual Salary – £21,500

About the Job

As one of our senior instructors you will lead and develop our activity delivery team of instructors and trainees; as well as delivering sessions yourself. The role will involve evening and weekend working and undertaking responsibility as a rota Duty Manager.  You will also assist the Head of Centre with the management review of safety procedures, session plans and risk assessments. You will be expected to attend and contribute to our annual training events and customer open days and we will also support you with your own personal development.

About you

We are looking for an Instructor with at least 3 years’ experience who can deliver both on and off site activities, and who holds at least one senior qualification from the list below;

•  Senior instructor (Dinghy)

•  UK CC Level 2 Plus moderate water endorsement

•  British Canoeing Level 3

•  Single Pitch Award

In addition, you will hold a coaching qualification in several of the following outdoor activities: Climbing, Sailing, Archery, Canoe, Kayak, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Caving, Bush Craft, Fencing.  It would also be desirable for you to have proven experience in delivering Problem Solving Activities and Team Building Games.
