Strategic Leadership Workshop

Strategic Leadership Workshop

IOL Strategic Leadership Workshop

What is it?

An opportunity for senior practitioners of outdoor learning to develop management skills, share experiences, debate future challenges and enhance their leadership self-awareness and skills.

Why Come?

The changes, initiatives and opportunities in the wider outdoor sector mean that the impact your work and the work of your colleagues is now more valuable than ever before. The programme includes:.

  • Skills for leading, managing, influencing and decision-making
  • Using action learning and coaching to gain solutions to current challenges
  • Debating the impact of what’s happening in the wider outdoor sector – trailblazer apprenticeships, professional standards, a chartered body, etc.
  • Reflection on how your values and beliefs drive your current work
  • Sharing your experience and learning from the experience and perspectives of other leaders in the sector
  • Inspiration for positively influencing outdoor learning in your specific area

"Many thanks again for an inspiring workshop. The preparation of the room immediately made me feel something worthwhile was going to happen, not just another same old meeting. It reminded me how easily we can get complacent and do what we have to do to get by, rather than go the extra mile to make our attendees feel special and valued. I have started to coach senior staff again this week. As always Neal, I loved your little anecdotes especially the climbing one. And have you really walked some of the Appalachian Trail?"

Is it for me?

The IOL Leadership Workshop is not for everyone. It is likely participants will be an experienced practitioner of outdoor learning and will be involved in making local and strategic decisions. Past participants have included centre managers, senior instructors, company directors, outdoor education advisors, NGB specialists, and training consultants.

You may well hold an APIOL and will be looking for CPD to improve your self-awareness and your practice. You will want knowledge, skills and options to meet current challenges and further your career.
