Wild Harvest School
We designed this course as we saw that landowners and insurers were concerned about foraging tuition, unsure if it was sustainable or safe. We also realised there was no set standard that ensured safe, effective teaching and environmentally sound and legal practice. A further observation was that there were great plant people out there, who weren't necessarily good teachers.
This course is a teaching-methods based course. Teach Foraging was trialled in 2017 and received fantastic feedback, increasing the confidence and ability of students to teach, by an average of 80%. Wild Harvest School has been teaching foraging and other self-reliance skills for 17 years. Initially running walks for the Forestry Commission and National Park Centres and making hedgerow teas and cordials to sell in their gift shops.
Today we teach both from our off-grid tipi sites in York, and online too. 'Teach Foraging' has been running for four years. We are members of the Ass. of Foragers and have been featured in Escape to the Country, Country Living, Countryfile, Landlove and other media. Our mission is to produce foraging teachers who present content-rich walks while embedding safe and sustainable process as an integral part of their teaching. We want the public to be able to feel reassured about the content and quality of the training they have paid for, have actionable take-aways and who in return highly review the wild-food-walk tutor. Our succinct, info-packed, anti-waffle walk structure has seen us highly reviewed and fully booked for over a decade.
This course is ideal if you work in Forest Schools, Bushcraft or Nature Therapy, and already have some knowledge of the plants 'out there'. We have included Business Studies modules specific to building and growing a successful, fully-booked, outdoor education school. Learn at home, in your own pace, and on any device. There are 38 lessons, seven self-assessment tests, over 3 hours of video, and the ability to add the 'full assessment upload' option.
