Making the Scottish Outdoor Access Code part of YOUR work
Know the Code before you go...
Do you work in the outdoors with people?
What do you tell others about the Scottish Outdoor Access Code?
Have you ever experienced problems with accessing the hills or water?
A series of FREE training workshops about the Scottish Outdoor Access Code are being provided by the Institute for Outdoor Learning and funded by Scottish Natural Heritage between November 2007 and February 2008. The workshops are aimed at instructors and leaders who are involved with outdoor learning programmes, outdoor education and outdoor experiences in Scotland.
The Code gives guidance on the responsibilities of recreational users and land managers in the outdoors and is based on three principles:
- take responsibility for your own actions
- respect the interests of other people
- care for the environment
So what do these mean in practice? Come along to find out and share your experiences.
By attending a workshop, you will be able to:
- increase your own understanding of the Code
- make the three principles of the Code relevant to your everyday work
- share practical ideas with your colleagues on how to introduce the Code to customers
- make your customers more aware of the Code and its relevance to their outdoor experiences
You will also get to take away some resources and materials to help you in your work.
Following a successful first pilot workshop, ten half day workshops will be taking place at the following venues. We can also offer additional events to organisations as part of a staff training day – please contact Fiona Exon at IOL for further details about these options.
The workshops are part of Scottish Natural Heritage’s Sharing Good Practice programme.
