An event with a pub meal and speaker is planned by the Midlands Exec. Events

  • The region continues to move forward with new APs and LPs and prospectives of both. The Region also has two new trained AP Assessors. The committee has recently presented certificates of thanks to all who have either spoken  to the Region’s membership or provided facilities. Has also sent congratulatory letters to all new AP recipients. And has also approached IOL Organisational Members who are not currently taking advantage of the AP scheme to do so.
  • Midlands Region is currently consulting about organising a Summer Outdoor Learning Event. This would be available for any provider in the region to come along and promote themselves to invited Teachers, EVCs, Youth Leaders, etc. If you are a provider in the region and would be interested in being there do contact Sonia Wright at Bellheath OE Centre. It is planned, should we pursue this event, that canoeing and mobile climbing walls, orienteering etc., will be offered as tasters in say Sutton Park. We need to know if this would be useful to you and supported by you.
  • Our Fun day event is currently planned for October and will be a lunch plus a ropes course try out - not necessarily in that order!

Message from Midlands Exec. “IOL is more than a jobs board. It's a social networking organisation (sound familiar) Those of you looking towards your next job need to consider what makes you different from the next Tutor/Instructor. It's not just about certificates, employers want thinking practitioners who can articulate the latest ideas about Outdoor learning - the regional events are where you gain that input and even meet your next employer!”

Midlands diary dates

• Challenging Behaviour 25th June at Frank Chapman Centre
• MLTE Update 26th April at FCC
• AGM 11 Jan 2009 Bishops Wood Centre
• BCU Update - Edgbaston Watersports March 2009

1. Midlands IOL is planning a Facilitation Skills day, those interested in attending, sending staff on this day, please contact Dan.
2. We are also intending to run a John Muir Leader Training. This would be a 2 day residential, approx. £120, which is very good value.
These courses usually only come as far as the Lakes, so we need an expression of interest from members and others, so do promote this opportunity outside IOL, before making arrangements. For both courses contact Dan
