One of the main functions of IOL is to promote and share good practice in Outdoor Learning provision.
This is achieved through:
- Website - Resources & Information, The Source listings of Outdoor Providers and Training
- Publications - Horizons magazine, Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning, Regular Newsletters and e-News sheets
- Bookshop - Specialist books
- Regions, Home Nations and Special Interest Groups - Workshops, events, conferences and meetings
- National Conferences - Workshops, debate etc.
- Career Development Benchmarks - key points in your career
- Accreditation - Accredited Practitioner and Fellow of IOL
IOL's Professional Development activities promote and support:
- professional standards for practitioners and providers
- the development and training that individuals and providers need to achieve those standards.
In 2007 SkillsActive and IOL developed a Framework for Career Development in the Outdoor Sector, which aims to map on one page the key stages in a career in the outdoors, and the qualifications and experience needed to move through these stages.
This document will also be used to help us identify where there is duplication in qualifications, and where new qualifications are needed.
There are two versions of this diagram, an outline version and a full/detailed version. Please click on the image or document title to view the version you wish to see.
If you wish to comment on the diagrams or ask questions about them, please contact IOL's professional development manager, Heather Brown.
