How are employers using APIOL?
We can offer services to organisations who want help to integrate APIOL with their HR processes. People are already using the APIOL criteria to:
• update staff training programmes and staff development reviews
• look at how the APIOL criteria tie in with job descriptions and career progressions
Using APIOL Criteria - a Case Study
Peter Dennett writes:
Hindleap Warren is a residential Outdoor Education Centre on the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. Two Senior Staff have taken part in the first two Southern region APIOL pilot schemes.
From our participation in the Pilots it has become clear that the APIOL criteria has a broader use than just as a means to accreditation. Fulfilling the criteria means that you have an experienced well rounded practitioner, or as I have put it to a new staff member, "if you want to be doing my job in a few years' time these are the things you should be looking to achieving". We are introducing the criteria into our internal mentoring and appraisal for instructors. We are also trying to integrate the criteria into our pay scales. The fact that the criteria will be seen as the 'industry standard' means our instructors can be guided to acquire skills and experience that will be useful in any future jobs.
