English Outdoor Council Update

Learning Outside the Classroom

One of EOC’s roles is to act as the LOtC sector group for adventurous activities.  If any members of the Council for LOtC working in the adventurous activities sector would like to comment on or influence its work, feel free to contact the Chair of EOC, Randall Williams.

Here are a few snippets of information from the Council’s work.

Over three quarters of local authorities in England and Wales have now signed up to a commitment that they will both recommend the use of Quality Badged providers and make it easier for schools to use those providers by not requiring any additional information that duplicates details provided by the Quality Badge criteria.  If you have been waiting to see how the scheme develops before going for a badge, now is the time to act – details at www.lotcqualitybadge.org.uk/home

In April, the House of Commons Children, Schools and Families Select Committee delivered a very supportive follow up report on LOtC, downloadable at www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200910/cmselect/cmchilsch/418/418.pdf

The new Department for Education is required to reply formally to this and we look forward to its response.

Finally, the Council for LOtC is in its final year of government funding, which ends on 31 March 2011.  It will therefore need to find new sources of income in the next ten months.  If anyone is aware of possible sources of charitable funds that might find the work of the Council of interest, the staff would very much appreciate knowing about them.
