New Years Honour for Simon Waring

Simon Waring, of Outward Bound, has been Awarded Member of the Victorian Order (MVO) in the New Years Honours.

The Award (Member of the Victorian Order) is awarded by members of the Royal Family themselves and is made to people who have given long or exceptional service. Simon has worked for The Outward Bound Trust for 30 years in a number of Centres and positions. The Patron of The OB Trust is Prince Philip and the Chairman of the Trustees is The Duke of York. They both work hard for The Trust particularly in fundraising. The Trust raises over £900,000 each year to support young people who would otherwise not be able to attend our courses. Fundraising has also enabled the purchase of Howtown Outdoor Activity Centre which after extensive redevelopment is due to provide courses again from the end of February. It will be managed by Simon from the Ullswater Outward Bound Centre which was visited by The Duke of Edinburgh last August and was opened by The Duke of York in September.

On receiving his award, Simon said, “I have been motivated to work for The Trust by a strong belief in the work we do and the achievements of young people on our courses. Many of the staff I have worked with have also been a great inspiration.”
