Invitation to TCPA Workshops on Waterways and **Call for Evidence**
The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) are working on a project to look at the economic, social and environmental contribution of waterways and the challenges and opportunities that the planning system presents in maximizing this contribution.
As part of this project the TCPA will be hosting a series of regional seminars across February and March for those involved in planning, policy and economic development. Each workshop will have an overview of the role of waterways, how they link with government agendas and some of the planning challenges. There will also be a presentation from someone from the area on a local project and/or the local situation as relates to waterways. There will then be time to discuss waterways in relation to the following themes:
1. Health, Happiness & Well-Being
2. Visitor Economy & Sustainable Tourism
3. Place Making & Shaping
4. Green Infrastructure
5. Sustainable Transport
The workshops will aim to identify the key planning policy challenges and opportunities for waterways and a discussion document will be circulated in advance.
We are really keen to get the views of as many planning and policy professionals as possible, across the regions. The workshops will be held on the following dates in a variety of locations, I would be most grateful if you could let me know whether you would be able to attend and which location (they are all in the city/town centre, joining instructions will be sent). Please feel free to pass this invitation on to colleagues who you think may be interested working in the planning or economic development field.

13.02.09 – Milton Keynes*
20.02.09 – Manchester

27.02.09 – Newport
04.03.09 – Birmingham
Workshops will run from 2pm to 4/4.30pm with lunch available from 1pm, with the exception of *Milton Keynes which will begin at 10.30am with coffee from 10am. It will be aim to be finished by 12.30/1pm.
Please note that this is also a **Call for evidence**. We would be very grateful for any case studies, examples of best practice or planning policy which refers to waterways that you may be aware of.
