GROWING SCHOOLS’ [GS] INITIATIVE

IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR SCHOOL TEACHERS INTERESTED IN FIELD WORK

With the invaluable support of the Department for Children Schools and Families through the ‘Growing Schools’ [GS] initiative, Nafso has received funding to provide networking opportunities via our attendance at GS Development meetings, inclusion of GS materials in the Newsletter, Journal, Website and at Conference.

As part of this GS support, we have received 10 bursaries for classroom teachers from England to attend the NAFSO Annual Conference at Low Wood Hotel, nr. Windermere, Cumbria, January 2009. The bursary will cover the full cost of the conference fee, and allow a small contribution to be made to travel expenses. The teachers will be able to enjoy all aspects of the conference including visit options, networking opportunities and above all the chance to share their own experiences and aspirations in fieldwork with NAFSO members representing a wide range of expertise in managing and leading fieldwork. They will also be able to learn more about the Growing Schools program by visiting the exhibition in the Market Place and possibly through choosing the GS option for a visit and/or seminar.

All NAFSO members are asked to pass news of this opportunity to teacher colleagues that have recently or regularly visited field study centres, or via their Local Authority or other professional networks. This letter should be accompanied by an e-copy of the Conference Prospectus with the booking form and the Bursary Application.

Bursaries are open to school-based teachers only. Early years, Primary, Secondary and Special teachers are welcome to apply.

Teachers who require further information should contact Chas Matthews, NAFSO Chairman, on: matthews.r.c@btinternet.com. Formal application must be made via the Bursary Application Form and sent to Chas Matthews at the address shown. Bursaries will be awarded on a first-come, first served basis, and the bursary application must be accompanied by a completed Conference Booking form. Teachers who are unsuccessful in gaining a bursary are of course welcome to attend the conference at the non-members rate, but may equally choose to withdraw their conference application form without prejudice.
Please help to ensure that these valuable opportunities are circulated as widely as possible to ensure that all 10 bursaries can be awarded.
