BBC ThrillSeeker well supported by Parliamentary Group
The All Party Parliamentary Group on Adventure and Recreation has
thrown its support behind the BBCThrillSeeker campaign to be launched
this Sunday on BBC 1 Countryfile.

BBC Learning is launching a brand new, multi-platform campaign to
encourage individuals and families to try out a new adventure
activity. By joining forces with BBC One?s Countryfile and a range of
external partners, the ThrillSeeker campaign will enable people to
search out exciting events taking place across the UK. External
partners include adventure sports governing bodies, voluntary youth
organisations, schools, colleges and adventure providers.
Explaining the reason for ThrillSeeker, Sean Kirkegaard, Development
Executive, BBC Learning Campaigns stated: "Recent research carried
out by the BBC found people had a real desire for more adventure in
their lives. It's my avowed hope that the ThrillSeeker campaign helps
people fulfil that desire by offering a wide range of free or reduced
price adventures for all." BBC Learning deliver campaigns that aim to
inspire and empower individuals.
ThrillSeeker Activities are tiered according to their level of
difficulty, from hiking and cycling to canyoning and kite surfing, so
there really is something for all ages and abilities. Trying out a new
activity doesn?t have to be expensive as most on the Event Finder are
free or charged at a cost recovery reduced rate. All events are
organised and run by external partner organisations who are
specialists in their field.
MP Julian Brazier, a Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on
Adventure and Recreation in Society which enthusiastically supports
BBC Thrillseeker stated "This is just where we need to be.
Opportunities are missed and many social ills are caused by an
aversion to risk and adventure. Society always benefits if it holds a
sensibly adventurous approach to life. This offer of healthy fun and
thrills for all sits well with our group's agenda of educational and
recreational challenges for all."
Ian Lewis, Coordinator of the Campaign for Adventure, and organiser of
'Outdoor Adventure Week 2010' commented, "Our Adventurous Britain can
stride out and properly enjoy itself through BBCThrillSeeker. It has
been a real pleasure to work with the BBC Learning and all the
partners in creating this huge opportunity. New challenges are being
offered and are available from the web-site every day."
Lembit Öpik MP, a Co-Chair, asked "How can we know what we can do if
we do not safely adventure and explore of what we are capable?" and
Frank Dobson MP, Co-Chair stated "This is just the reason the BBC is
so special. I wish them and those who take up these opportunities
great success and a lot of fun."
Visitors to the ThrillSeeker website at bbc.co.uk/thrillseeker, will
be able to look up thousands of adventurous activities. By entering
their postcode an Event Finder feature allows users to narrow down
their search to reveal exciting activities taking place within their
local area. New events are being launched daily.
A special time is Outdoor Adventure Week 2nd-11th April, 2010. The campaign launched on January 31st on BBC One's Countryfile, presented by Julia Bradbury and Matt Baker.
