Thank you to all the staff at IOL who organised the conference, it was inspiring, dynamic, informative and a great atmosphere. I think I experienced some of the fun of learning together that children experience learning out of the classroom!

Delegates and participants had an enjoyable time at the event which was interesting, informative and vibrant. Even the weather was good!

The first Leading Practitioner of IOL Awards were presented by IOL Chair Andy Simms during the conference.

Friday 17th October (10.00 - 17.15)

A day of thought provoking insights and discussions. For outdoor managers, leaders, lecturers and practitioners with an interest in the future of outdoor learning.

  • ‘What is the Value of Outdoor Learning to Society?’ - Prof. Pete Higgins and Dr. Simon Beames from the School of Education, University of Edinburgh
  • ‘How we Evidence the Value of Our Work’ - Jon Owen and Lucy Maynard from the School of Outdoor Studies, University of Cumbria
  • ‘News and Updates from around the Sector’- Peter Thompson (SkillsActive), Mike Tones (LOtC) and Duncan Carter (CCPR), Marcus Bailie (AALS)
  • Outcomes include the establishment of working parties to take forward the key points from the discussion seminars.

Friday evening (17.30 onwards)

  • Illustrated talk by explorer Conrad Dickinson (IOL Vice President), drinks in the bar, dinner
  • After dinner a Fun pub-style Quiz (which will delve into your grey matter on all sorts of topics, from general knowledge to music!) with prizes for the winning team and the team with the best name (teams of up to 4 people)
  • During the evening there will be a prize draw and some EXCELLENT prizes.

Saturday 18th October (09.30 - 16.30)

  • INSURANCE for FIELD/ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY FREELANCE INSTRUCTORS. A freelance instructor, just doing Field Studies/Environmental Studies, can expect to pay just £147 inc IPT (depending on satisfactory completion on the proposal form) if they are a member of IOL.

Exhibition, Trade Stands and Delegate Pack Inserts

The Conference is a superb 2-day opportunity to reach IOL members of every kind and promote your organsiation. We'd like to invite exhibition and trade stands at the 2 day event.

For as little as £75 you can have a display on one of the days. If you are not able to attend we can also offer to insert promotional literature into delegate packs for you.
