Fuchs Foundation

The Fuchs Foundation was conceived by the party of British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Scientists over wintering in South Georgia in 1973/4 to mark the outstanding service of Sir Vivian Fuchs as the first Director of BAS. Over the first thirty years the Foundation has supported over two hundred individuals to travel to every continent.   The primary objective of the Foundation was, 'to provide education and character training, physical, moral and spiritual for young boys and girls, adolescents and young men and women who are in necessitous circumstances'. The Foundation wishes to build on that initial objective and reach out to teachers and more students by making learning of science and geography more relevant and stimulating.

Independent Schools Adventure Activities Association whose principal aim is to help foster the unique value of adventure activities/outdoor pursuits amongst our students by bringing together groups of teachers in Independent Schools (at Prep School and Secondary level) involved in providing adventure activities to offer help, advice and guidance to each other in order to meet the principles of good safe current practice required by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
