Outdoor Education Unit, Swattenden Centre, Cranbrook
We are looking for a talented professional with a passion for Outdoor Education and Learning outside the Classroom to join this small but busy Unit.
Based at the Swattenden Centre in Cranbook, you will be part of a team responsible to the Senior Outdoor Education Adviser.
Learning outside the classroom is flourishing in Kent Schools and Youth Centres and so we have a vital role to play in supporting and approving thousands of educational and offsite visits.
The role involves two main elements:
- Developing our Outdoor Learning Service, a increasingly important part of the Unit that involves managing and delivering a range of training programmes and coaching courses.
- Providing advice and guidance to schools and youth centres and ensuring that educational and offsite visits are carried out in line with the Local Authority Offsite Activity policy. This includes approving approximately 3000 visits per annum, using our on line Visit Notification and Approval system and the vetting of a large number of providers.
The role will also include managing the Outdoor Education Website and deputising for the Senior Outdoor Education Adviser on occasions.
You will have:
- a relevant Professional Qualification in work with young people
- a good understanding of Health and Safety issues relating to Outdoor Education
- a good awareness of Outdoor Education in the National Curriculum
- at least one relevant outdoor activity Coaching qualification
- direct teaching experience.
We are looking for someone with;
- First class verbal and written communication skills
- A good practical knowledge of working in the world of Outdoor Education.
- Experience of managing and delivering excellent and high quality training programmes
- Good IT skills and experience of using the Microsoft range of programmes
- The ability to work flexibly, as a member of a small team and independently.
