PENDARREN HOUSE OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTRE STUDENT INSTRUCTOR OF OUTDOOR EDUCATION Minimum age 17 years.
Pendarren House provides high quality environmental education and personal development courses using outdoor adventurous activities for young people of the London Borough of Haringey. The Centre offers mainly five day residential courses for primary and secondary schools but weekend programmes for people of all ages are also provided.
An opportunity is available for a Student Instructor to work alongside a team of committed teachers and instructors and help the Centre to support continuing improvements in the achievements of young people in the Borough. During this 11 month work based placement the successful candidate will have the opportunity to obtain an accreditation from the Open College Network by completing the South Wales Outdoor Education Training Programme. This programme is designed for students who are considering a career in outdoor education and would like to learn more about this area of work. It will enable the student to develop skills and gain experience and knowledge to work effectively as an outdoor education instructor.
The Student Instructor will be energetic and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in adventure activities, the outdoor environment and working with young people.
The placement is for a maximum of 42 weeks between 1st. September 2008 and 31st July 2009.
The Student Instructor will receive free board and accommodation while courses are in residence and £60 per week expenses. They will have the opportunity to progress through training and assessment for appropriate NGB awards.
