Apprentice Outdoor Activity Worker with Surrey Outdoor Learning &
Development (SOLD)
The SOLD Apprenticeship Programme runs for 10months from the beginning of
July and finishes the end of April 2009.
Our programme is part of the Learning & Skills Council (LSC)
Apprenticeship framework, we have space for 12 motivated & enthusiastic
young practitioners aged 17-18. The essence of the scheme is to provide
technical and teaching skills in a variety of Outdoor Activities, and they
will be involved in the day to day work at the centres working as an
assistant alongside qualified staff.
The apprentices will work 4 days per week Mon - Thurs, and be based either
at High Ashurst (Dorking) or Thames Young Mariners (Kingston) and Henley
Fort (Guildford).
The apprentices will be expected to undertake and complete during their programme:
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership
- Basic Expedition Leaders Award
- Various NGB's BCU, RYA, Canoeing - Sailing, Powerboat, etc
- Site specific training as required
- Input into Key skills- communication & numeracy
The trainees will recieve a small training grant of aprox £30 per week.
After completing the programme there maybe opportunity of contracted
positions within SOLD. The places are offered on a non residential basis as
we have very limited accomodation
