Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto - Seminar Report

The Learning Outside the Classroom seminar, jointly hosted by the Institute for Outdoor Learning and Brathay was held at Earls Court on Monday 11th December. 

Sharing best practice and developing a multi-agency approach to improving outcomes for children and young people.

Chaired by Steve Lenartowicz of IOL, 75 delegates attended and in the morning listened to presentations by Mike Tones (Manifesto Champion for the DfES), Mike Blakey (Head of Consulting at Brathay) who discussed the links between the Manifesto and other important initiatives, such as the Every Child Matters Agenda, the Children's Act, how Children's Trusts are working.

Jane Haywood MBE (Chief Executive of the Children's Workforce Development Council) gave a strong presentation on the work her organization is involved in and the relevance to the issues of Learning Outside the Classroom.

After an excellent lunch and an opportunity for delegates to network and meet with a number of exhibitors, Lindsay Newton (Head of Development for Dudley Children's Services) gave an inspirational presentation on the work of Dudley MBC in putting children at the heart of the design of initiatives for children and young people throughout Dudley.panel

    Answer session with the panel.

The speakers were joined by
Dr K B Everard and Phil Revell
of Journeys Magazine in a lively Question and Answer session where delegates discussed the Manifesto and the wider issues raised by the seminar.
