Outdoor Education Instructor/Educator - Gordonstoun School - be £900 per month

Outdoor Education Instructor/Educator

Gordonstoun is looking for a qualified, highly motivated individual to work in the Outdoor Education and Learning Department. The post would suit someone who can work independently, has excellent communication skills and has the ability to inspire our students. The post would be for 11 months starting late August 2012, working in term time only.

 

Key responsibilities are:

  • The delivery of a comprehensive, inspiring and educational range of outdoor education and learning sessions, programmes and expeditions.
  • Managing the day to day operations of the equipment store and the regular administration and maintenance of outdoor education equipment.
  • Assist in all aspects of the administration of the Outdoor Education & Learning Department.
  • Play a full and active part in the life of Gordonstoun beyond the classroom.

 

To be considered for this role you must have:

Highly desirable abilities and skills:  

Full clean driving licence with D1 + E enabling you to drive minibuses with a trailer. Efficient use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and Email. Higher level NGB qualifications and an outdoor education degree. Experience of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and experience of working with young people in a variety of settings.

The Outdoor Education and Learning Department

The department plays a pivotal and hugely important role in student development. It provides an extensive range of outdoor education and learning experiences which include, summer and winter expeditions in wilderness areas, summer and winter multi pitch climbing, year round sailing, canoeing and kayaking on the Moray Firth, mountain biking, canoe and kayak journeys and expeditions, skiing & snowboarding, bushcraft and combined sail training and mountaineering expeditions aboard Ocean Spirit. The School

Gordonstoun is a fully co-educational, boarding school with a seven day weekly programme for students between the ages of 13 and 18. Aberlour House, our junior school, is also on the campus with students between the ages of 8 and 12. The School’s distinctive ethos is driven by the educational principles of Kurt Hahn with the central pillars being internationalism, challenge, responsibility and service. The School is a member of Round Square, a world-wide association of over 80 schools sharing a common philosophy.

The School is also known for the wide range of activities, which it provides for girls and boys throughout the School. All the usual subjects and sports are catered for but also outdoor education, expeditions, seamanship and a wide variety of Rescue and Community services. The creative life of the School as a whole, including music, art, drama and dance, is vibrant, well-developed and central to both the life and ethos of Gordonstoun. The School has first-class facilities for these activities including a newly-opened sports hall and a purpose-built theatre, as well as significant and advanced facilities in Information Technology.

Staff are deeply committed; holidays are long – but during term staff work throughout the week, including weekends. The variety and range of activities, coupled with a real commitment to work and the involvement of all staff in pastoral care, reflect the School’s family environment and its aim to educate the whole person. Applicants are required to be over the age of 21yrs on commencing employment.

Conditions

Salary will be £900 per month. Single accommodation is provided as an additional part of the salary package, together with all meals in term time.
