Royal Life Saving Society - ‘National Water Safety Management Programme’
We’re all aware of ensuring personnel working in confined spaces or at heights are trained to a suitable standard and since the Health and Safety Executive have endorsed the Royal Life Saving Societies’ ‘National Water Safety Management Programme’, it appears that water safety training is going the same way.
Here at ‘Birmingham & Midland Marine Services’, we have been promoting water safety for those personnel working near the water along the inland waterways; our canals, river, reservoirs, brooks, streams and so forth for a number of years, and since 2016 have been running the RLSS NWSMP both at clients venues and from our training centre at Gailey Wharf on the Staffs and Worcester Canal in Staffordshire.
As specialist marine access, rescue and training providers, approved trainers and contractors for the Canal & River Trust (formerly British Waterways) we are working on or near the water all day, and are painfully aware of the potential dangers that could (and will) befall untrained personnel working waterside, who remain unaware of the dangers; particularly those who are managing groups in that environment.
We hope to rectify this by providing specialist water safety training; including, firstly and most importantly of how to facilitate a rescue of a casualty, and equally importantly, to be able to read the signs of a potentially dangerous situation occurring in the first place.
The RLSS NWSMP is a suite of modular and interlinked training awards which offer a flexible approach to water safety training. Search and Rescue, Mountain Rescue, emergency services, mountain guides and expedition leaders can all benefit from this new award scheme. Contact us for further details of this open course. Closed courses by arrangement.
